Champagne Goutorbe-Bouillot
The history of the Goutorbe-Bouillot family is intrinsically linked to the village of Damery in the Vallee de la Marne. Three families: Bouillot, the Goutorbe and the Papleux worked there and still work in the service and production of Champagne, on the same ground. They now bear the family name Papleux and yet Champagne Goutorbe-Bouillot is their family business. They are indeed an esteemed recoltant-manipulant grower operation, and what is more members of Vignerons Indépendants. Their position is in the very heart of the Champagne region where they now farm eight hectares of land.
The Goutorbe-Bouillot solera system is deeply linked to their history and land. ‘Damery, mother earth’ is their slogan, which neatly sums up their identity because their approach to the profession lies in its particularity of place – the earth is the soil, the only one who welcomes and nourishes. From the nourishing earth they draw their inspiration, and their point of difference is located in the hollow of the earth, within their cellar – a seldomly used Champagne technique called solera. In their vats and barrels, their reserve wine welcomes the wine of the year, and everything produced comes from the same base, ensuring that all of these wines are bursting with complexity and personality, each in their own right.
