Champagne J. Lassalle
J. Lassalle was founded in 1942 in Chigny-les-Roses, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, and their wines tell a family story that can be traced back to founder, Jules Lassalle, grandfather of current winemaker Angéline Templier. When Jules died in 1982, his wife Olga and daughter Chantal took over, and Angéline joined them in 2006. Today they are committed to preserving the unique style of Jules’ wines and to bringing increased elegance to them.
The estate owns all of their vineyards, which are within 10km from the winery and classified as premier cru and grand cru. The production is small, with just 150,000 bottles made each year on average, and cellar ageing is 3-4 years for non-vintage wines and up to ten years for vintage wines! Lassalle are also one of 28 artisan winemakers that make up the Club des Tresors and release a champagne under the ‘Special Club’ labelling in outstanding vintages.
Wines from J. Lassalle that we have available include:
J. Lassalle Champagne Cuvée Preference 1er Cru NV
A classic cuvée style and the ‘spirit of the house’ with 60% Meunier and 20% each of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay. Straw yellow with fresh minerality and flavours of pear and peach, and three to four years of ageing sur lie lends the wine delicate aromatics of pastry and fresh bread.
J. Lassalle Champagne Rosé NV 1er Cru
A characterful sparkling rosé made with 70% Pinot Noir, with a persistent mousse and aromatics of fresh strawberries and red cherry, alongside sweet spices and liquorice.
J. Lassalle Champagne Cuvée Angéline (Check Current Vintage)
Perhaps the estate’s most prestigious cuvée, established in 1978 to celebrate the birth of the founder’s grand-daughter, Angéline, who now leads the house! Elegant, soft and intense, this wine is 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, aged sur lie for ten years – and presents a complex and sensational character full of apricot, quince, almonds and sweet praline.
J. Lassalle Champagne Special Club (Check Current Vintage)
Created in 1971 in collaboration with Le Club Trésors, this is another of Lassalle’s top cuvées, this time 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, plucked from the finest vineyard parcels in the estate. This wine is long-aged and is vivacious and concentrated, boasting flavours of marmalade and sweet patisserie pastry with dried fruits and fresh cream.
