Domaine Ramonet
Domaine Ramonet sits amongst the most famous wine producers of the Côte de Beaune, a traditional but world-class winery owning plots in some of the region’s finest Grands Crus and Premiers Crus vineyards, producing exceptional white and red wines that boast racy acidity and remarkable complexity.
The renowned Domaine Ramonet was founded in the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet (also known as Père Ramonet) and in the 1930s Pierre started purchasing vineyards on the Montrachet hill of the Côte de Beaune. By the 1950s he owned some of the region’s most sought-after Premiers Crus and Grands Crus vineyards, and today the domaine owns about fifteen hectares of vineyards in the appelations of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, with the winery currently being run by Pierre’s grandchildren, Jean-Claude and Noël Ramonet.
Domaine Ramonet mainly produces concentrated Chardonnay wines and a smaller production of red wine with Pinot Noir. These wines are made primarily from the fruit of old vines and are typically aged in about 30% of new oak – but this depends on the plot and the characteristics of each vintage.
The family owns some of the most beautiful and revered vineyard parcels in Burgundy, including four Grands Crus:
- Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
- Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru
- Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
- Le Montrachet Grand Cru
There are also eight Premiers Crus vineyard sites owned by domaine:
- Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet
- Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot
- Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Boudriottes
- Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers
- Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Caillerets
- Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes
